What's My Style?

I spent some time scouring articles, magazines and websites, trying to get an idea of all the different scrapbooking styles. The problem is, there is no one set of styles that all scrapbookers have agreed upon! So, I started over….what do I consider the different scrapbooking styles to be….

Clean and Simple:
This style usually includes:
- straight lines
- one large photo that dominates the page
- simple patterns- stripes, plaids, dots, flowers
- small amounts of embellishment- brads, photo prongs, tags
- clear journaling that stands out
- a bold title
- use of only one or two simple fonts
- photos cut into squares or rectangles
- great for kids photos, wedding photos, special events

Clutterbug: (well that is my term for it!)
This style usually includes:
- heavily patterned paper
- angles and overlapping photos
- lots of embellishments
- mixing of different patterns
- mixing of different fonts
- a "cluttered" look
- possibly a large photo or embellishment as a focal point
- lots of layers
- great for multiple photos of one event, heritage, candid photos

Art Journal/Expressive:
This style usually includes:
- expressing your feelings in a layout
- lots of doodles
- handwritten fonts
- random journaling or quotes
- "altered" art style photos or embellishments
- Creative uses for embellishments and papers
- Could be completed without a photos at all
- "messy"
- Lots of ripped, taped, worn elements
- Great for journaling thoughts or expressing emotions

Altered Art/Vintage:
This style usually includes:
- similar to art journaling
- focus on photos
- wings, crowns, doodles
- lots of ripped or worn elements
- creative use of elements
- softer elements such as buttons, thread, ribbons
- usually creating artistic expressions around or with a photo as the main object
- journaling is usually multiple fonts and is scattered throughout page
- great for heritage photos, baby photos, kids photos

Graphic Style:
This style usually includes:
- blending photos and backgrounds
- montage style
- looks like something out of a magazine
- lots of layers
- little to no use of paper style embellishments
- title and journaling are part of the photo
- no shadows
- overlays
- great for close-ups or photos with large amounts of white space

These are just a few of the indefinite amount of styles of scrapbooking layouts. Many times pages are a combination of one or more of these styles!!! And sometimes the pages are a style all their own!!! If you have never given it much thought, look through your gallery and see if one of these styles sticks out to you more than the others. Or maybe you can try a new style….you never know what you might like!!!
